The souls of the place

On the banks of the canal in the Vallée des Baux-de-Provence, Mas Cicada rises facing the vast Crau plain. True to the Provençal homes of bygone days, its generous volumes, light-filled rooms and reclaimed materials — from the Rognes stone staircases to the old fireplaces — lend it a rare authenticity. Around the house, a hectare of olive trees cultivated under the Vallée des Baux AOP flourishes in harmony with nature, while the architectural gardens, scented with garrigue, cradle several monumental artworks. A passionate collector, Éric-Jean has infused these walls with an eclectic world: furniture and lighting from the 1950s to the 1970s, sculptures from Zimbabwe, photographs from the École nationale de la photographie and the Rencontres d’Arles, works acquired at auctions supporting the École du Domaine des Possibles, and pieces created by artists welcomed in residence. Together, they form a living mosaic where old-world Provence, modernist spirit and contemporary creation converse — weaving stories of objects and shared memories.
A Parisian florist specialising in luxury events, Maxime spent years crafting elegant settings for prestigious houses, guided by the refined sensibility he shares with Éric-Jean. Yet behind the radiance of the bouquets lay a heavier truth: waste, ephemerality, and the frenzy of a profession in which nature often felt secondary. The Covid years acted as a revelation, strengthening his desire to give new meaning to his life. Leaving Paris became obvious, and the Alpilles emerged as a natural horizon. At Mas Cicada, Maxime has brought his own personal touch, infusing the house with a singular soul: he oversees hospitality and concierge services, hosts convivial dinners, and nurtures the precious connection between guests and the home. Through his care and attention, a Provençal art of living takes shape — one of beauty, sharing, and a rediscovered simplicity.
Because every detail matters… and turns into a memory you carry home.
